A Letter From The C.O.P.D. Information Line Team Leaders

Dear friends,

As you have seen in this issue of the COPD Digest, November is a particularly important month for COPD Awareness with events taking place around the nation on World COPD Day on the 18th. In addition, 2010 is the Year of the Lung and will kick-off the Decade of the Lung. We’d like for you to take advantage of this movement and become involved with the COPD Foundation.

You can donate your time. At one point, you had so many questions about your diagnosis and management of COPD. It can sometimes be a struggle, but as a community, we go through the challenges together. To help others in their journey, you can volunteer your time with the C.O.P.D. Information Line. The Info Line is staffed by COPDers like us who volunteer from their homes a few hours a week taking phone calls from others in the community, offering answers to questions and lending a comforting ear.

You can donate your talent. It doesn’t take a pro to help build a movement. If you talk to a friend, pass out a flyer, post a sign at your local supermarket, or make an announcement at your next community meeting, you’re already doing so much for advocacy! You can be part of our grassroots advocacy program, Operation 435, which is making strides in legislative issues and bringing about awareness to our lawmakers.

You can make a donation. We have come this far because of the involvement of the community, including their monetary contributions. In this coming year, we ask you to join us to continue to make such progress and make a contribution to support our programs and activities. Please take a moment to make a generous, tax-deductible contribution to the COPD Foundation today. Please send a check in the enclosed envelope or donate on-line using our secure website at www.copdfoundation.org/help/donate.

We urge you to become involved in any one (or all!) of the three ways you can give back to your community during this fall season of giving. For the past five years, the COPD Foundation has been able to offer brochures, a toll-free hotline, workshops, and events for the community because the legs of the movement—people like you!—decided to make a difference and became involved.

Your gift is making a difference in the fight against COPD—in your own community and across the country. Please pick up the phone today, and dial 1-866-316-2673 or log onto www. copdfoundation.org and sign up to become part of the movement this November! The community is counting on you!

Thank you!

Naomi, Maggie, Bill, Pam, Joe, Mary Ellen, Mary, Alice, Roy and Diane (C.O.P.D. Information Line Team Leaders)
